Nearly all online casino games have an inherit house edge – but what are they with the different version of the roulette?
There are pretty big differences in terms oh house edge between the different variations of the roulette – American, European and French.
The American Roulette has two green numbers (meaning 0 and 00), while the European and French have only 1 green number (0). Furthe, the French Roulette returns half of your bet if the green number turns up and you haven't bet on it.
To find the house edge for each version we'll use a simple equation (I won't bother you with the maths) and the assumption that we're betting on black/red or even/odd. These are the bets that are closer to a 50/50 chance, so they'll provide a good example.
This is the American Roulette:
(-1 x 18/38) + (-1 x 18/38) + (1 x 18/38) = -.0537
This is the European Roulette:
(1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 1/37) = -0.027
This is the french Roulette:
(1 x 18/37)+(-1 x 18/37)+(-0.5 x 1/37) = -0.014
These results represent the average loss we'll have on each dollar we bet with. As you can see, the American Roulette offers the least favorable odds out of the bunch with almost 5.5 cents lost per every dollar. The French version is nearly twice as attractive, with 2.7 cents lost on the dollar. The French roulette tops that with 1.4 cents.
Next time you have the choice between different versions of roulette – remember, the American Roulette is last option you should go with. |
